Cooling capacity: 3.5 kW

What this means for buyers: 3.5 kW is the amount of heat the unit can remove from a room. The manufacturer pairs that with a maximum room area of 42 m² (around 105 m³ of air), which comfortably covers most European living rooms, bedrooms and home offices. If your room sits at the top of that range, faces direct sun or has high ceilings, expect it to work harder to hold your set temperature.

Heating capacity: 3.5 kW

What this means for buyers: on models that include the heat function, the PortaSplit also delivers 3.5 kW of heating, so the same appliance can take the chill off a room in spring and autumn. The manual is clear that heating is not on every model, so check the specific listing if year-round use matters to you. It is rated A+ for heating efficiency.

Room size: up to 42 m²

What this means for buyers: match the room to this figure. Up to 42 m² (105 m³) is the rated maximum, and the manual also sets a minimum room area of 4 m² because the refrigerant is flammable. Use the 42 m² ceiling as a guide when deciding whether one unit is enough for an open-plan space.

Energy class: A++ cooling, A+ heating

What this means for buyers: a higher class means more cooling or heating output for every unit of electricity drawn, which keeps running costs down over a long summer. The manual lists A++ / 6.1 for cooling and A+ / 4.0 for heating.

Refrigerant: R32

What this means for buyers: the PortaSplit uses 0.62 kg of R32 refrigerant (stated CO₂ equivalent 0.42 t), sealed in at the factory, so there is nothing to top up under normal use. R32 is classed as flammable, which is why the manual asks you to keep the unit in a well-ventilated space of at least 4 m² and to call a qualified technician rather than touching the refrigerant circuit yourself.

Noise: 39 to 49 dB(A) indoors

What this means for buyers: the indoor unit produces a sound pressure level of 39 to 49 dB(A) across its four fan speeds — the lowest is suited to a bedroom, the highest to faster cooling in a living area. The outdoor unit has a sound power level of 62 dB, but it sits outside, so the side you share a room with stays comparatively quiet.

Power consumption

What this means for buyers: the unit runs on a standard 220–240 V, 50 Hz single-phase supply and draws a maximum current of 10 A, so an ordinary earthed household socket is enough — the manual says to plug it directly into the wall rather than using an extension lead or multi-plug adapter.

The manual lists the electrical supply and maximum current information, but does not provide a single rated wattage figure. For real-world running cost estimates, check the energy label or retailer specification before purchase.

Size and weight

What this means for buyers: the indoor unit measures 646 × 518 × 340 mm and the outdoor unit 438 × 500 × 260 mm, for a combined net weight of 45.5 kg. The indoor unit rolls on wheels so you can move it between rooms, but the outdoor unit's weight is worth planning for: it has to be mounted securely on the included window bracket, and the window frame and wall need to be able to support it. The outdoor unit carries an IPX4 rating, meaning it is built to withstand splashing water from any direction once outside.

Operating modes

What this means for buyers: the PortaSplit offers five modes, so it does more than cool:

  • Cool — set a target temperature and fan speed.
  • Heat — on models that include it, same temperature range as cooling.
  • Dry — dehumidifies; fan and temperature run automatically, and the manual suggests keeping windows and doors closed.
  • Fan — air circulation only, no heating or cooling.
  • Auto — the unit picks cooling, heating or fan to reach your target. Fan speed can't be set manually in Auto.

Across modes, the set temperature range is 16–30 °C (60–86 °F). Energy-saving ECO and Sleep modes are also built in.

Operating temperature ranges

The unit is designed to run within set temperature limits. Staying inside these ranges protects the hardware and keeps performance predictable:
